SUPPLIER QUALITY ENGINEER

Quality Engineer Essential Functions/Duties:

 

The Supplier Quality Engineer role involves evaluating supplier capabilities, conducting audits, and establishing quality agreements. This position requires a strong understanding of quality management principles, methodologies, and tools, along with proficiency in quality inspection techniques and standards. Key responsibilities include managing multiple projects, analyzing complex data to identify root causes of quality issues, and implementing corrective actions. Effective communication and collaboration with suppliers and internal stakeholders are essential for driving quality improvements. The role also involves monitoring supplier performance and ensuring compliance with quality standards and regulations. Continuous improvement and adaptability to dynamic environments are critical for success in this role.

 

  • Work closely with our Quality team to ensure that our supplier products or services meet the highest standards of quality. 
  • Ensure the quality of incoming material that meet our customer’s expectations.
  • Learn, apply, and continually approve quality control procedures and protocols.
  • Develop Non-directed Suppliers, Directed Suppliers when required, during PPAP activities and track launch and annual validations.
  • Collect and analyze data related to product quality, including defect rates, failure analysis, and other relevant metrics.
  • Assist in preparing reports summarizing quality performance. 
  • Collaborate with the Plant and Quality team to identify areas for process improvement and ways to enhance overall product quality. 
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of quality control activities ensuring Supplier corrective actions and charge back (QIR and RMD) reports are accurate and issued on time.
  • Assist in updating and managing quality control documentation, such as Quality Alerts and Inspection Instructions. Involvement in creation and maintaining PFMEA / Control Plan.
  • Perform monthly/weekly Supplier’s evaluations and issue monthly reporting to OPM HQ and Suppliers for scoring performance.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, engineering, and quality assurance, to address quality issues and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and industry standards. 
  • Assist in conducting internal quality, LPA's, and TSV audits to assess compliance with quality standards.
  • Conduct Supplier audits (traveling to the Supplier facility as needed) per quarterly plans, document findings, follow-up on findings, and report results in OPM Audit tool.
  • Work is generally performed in a manufacturing and office environment. 
  • Lead, or assit in leading, QA and Intern personnel activities including specification training, setting/validation of work hours, evaluation of OT, discipline, and any other people leadership fuctions.
  • Perform all duties in a safe & environmental manner. 
  • Participate in creating a safe-oriented work environment.
  • Use PPE as required.
  • Cooperation with Human Resources in dealing with personnel matters.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Experience/Skills:

 

  • Postsecondary Education in a related field (Industrial engineering or Mechanical Engineering).
  • 3 years working experience in Quality Engineering.
  • IATF16949/CSR (Customer Specific Requirements) ISO 14001, Auditor.
  • Official CMM training preferred.
  • Supplier Quality Management.
  • Quality Auditing.
  • GD&T, Blue Print Reading &SPC experience.
  • Experience with Tesla Quality Management systems: CQMS, EBSC.
  • Process Capability Monitoring & Process Control Monitoring.
  • APQP and PPAP process knowledge.
  • Change Management.
  • Calibration techniques.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good problem-solving skills- 8D.
