COMPONENT DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER
MISSION
- The Component Development Engineer is responsible for the development of the components for the new programs
- The Component Development Engineer is responsible to forward and coordinate customer and program requirements to all areas of OPmobility's and to OP’s suppliers
- Work is performed in a fast paced environment within tight time constraints
- Unusual hours and travel may be required
- This is a salaried exempt position
RESPONSABILITIES
- Responsible for the development of the assigned Components for the new programs
- Responsible for the definition of the system architectures that include the assigned component
- Support OPmobility’s Customer centers for the understanding of the specifications and for the key meetings with the OEM
- Responsible for establishing the Component Technical Specifications based on the OEM specifications and the additional requirements from OP
- Manage the technical discussions with the suppliers:
- Check conformity of the technical solutions with the specifications
- Work with the Program Application Engineer for approving the interface with the fuel tank
- Maintain the open issue list
- Approve the design of the components and release the drawings
- DVP&R and DFMEA approval
- Analysis of the test results and corrective actions
ACTIVITIES
- Act as expert for consultation to fellow associates and customers with regards to the sub-functions of the assigned components
- Support the Purchasing Department for the quoting of new programs
- Support the Purchasing Department for the development of the supplier base
- Lead the benchmarking of the assigned component
- Survey technology trends and lead strategic development plan for the assigned commodity
- Lead VAVE / cost reduction plan for the assigned commodity
- Actively participate in continuous improvement and corrective action activities
- Must successfully complete all Plastic Omnium required training
- Must comply with all work rules, policies and procedures
- Must comply with all safety rules and regulations
- Provide support to other positions as needed
- Other duties as assigned
PROFILE
Personal Background
- Minimum Bachelor degree in Engineering required
- 3 years or more experience with product development for the automotive industry
Skills and Abilities
- DVP&R, DFMEA, DFMA and BOM knowledge is required
- Strong knowledge of the component technologies and functionalities
- Strong understanding of following fields: Fluid Dynamics, Materials, Mechanics, Electro-mechanics, wire harnesses, Injection Molding, Stamping and Fuels
- Ability to manage the suppliers throughout the development
- Ability to maintain working relationships with suppliers and internal / external customers
- Good understanding of the assigned component cost breakdown
- Good understanding of the assigned component production and quality constraints
- Must be flexible, dependable and creative
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Professional verbal and written communication skills (English required)
- Must be able to manage time and determine priorities
- Work requires standing, walking, bending, climbing, stooping, driving and sitting
- Must be able to lift up to 25lbs on an occasional basis
