The quality engineer works to ensure a product provides a high level of quality that meets customer expectation. Quality engineering involves ensuring that the different products are fully operational, effective and free from defects. Verifying the quality and performance of the products in addition to troubleshooting the rectification of any existing errors or defects. The quality engineer is responsible for analyzing the product under various working conditions and confirming that the product delivers its promise. The quality engineer work involves designing or specifying inspection and testing mechanisms and equipment; analyzing production limitations and standards and recommending revision of specifications when indicated. In addition they formulate or help formulate quality policies and procedures as well as conducting training on quality concepts and tools; they interface with all other engineering components within the company and with customers and suppliers on quality related issues.
Primary Accountabilities:
- Ensure Customer Specific Requirements and follow up through KPIs.
- Be the main contact to the assigned Customers and respond in a timely manner all external quality complaints (Customer, Resident, warranty) by the customer and document all corrective actions to ensure quality.
- Responsible for the administration of RMAs process, creation, control, follow up and inform finance department in advance or when we have customer debits for this reason.
- Create quality alerts for external complaint.
- Upload external and official customer concern on VPRS, at least cover sheet and 8ds as an attachment.
- Responsible for the management of customer visits and audits focused on the productive area.
- Lead and management resident engineer and third party companies internally and in customer assembly plant.
- Maintain constant communication with Process Quality Engineers.
- Review daily and maintain website of customer assigned updated.
- Lead work team internally to maintain the customer scorecard on green.
- Estimate, provision, monitor and maintain quality cost under control and inside of the indicator.
- Assure the customer satisfaction, perform customer survey at least once a year.
- Promote a philosophy of zero defects through the definition of preventive actions based on the quality system.
- Decision-making authority in critical conditions that endanger the quality of the product and the specific requirements of the customer.
- Work in continuous improvements trough kaizen methodology
- Audit process controls as defined in the product’s control plan.
- Develop, document and train the personnel on first piece check lists for the assigned products, visual aids, clown pieces, boundary samples and inspection criteria.
- Validate the implementation of corrective actions as well as their level of effectiveness.
- Ensure that all the procedures and instructions documented in the Quality System are followed up on the assigned products and manufacturing cells.
- Ensure Customer PPAP Approval or at least an interim/deviation approval for the products assigned.
- Update Control Plan and quality documentation related to customer concern or when is required.
Knowledge required:
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field.
- 5 years minimum related experience preferred.
- Bilingual (English-Spanish).
- ISO/TS 16949, VDA 6.3 (preferred), Q1 (preferred).
- Experience in automotive industry as Tier 1 supplier.
- Core tools for automotive industry (APQP, PFMEA, PPAP, SPC, and MSA).
- Customer specific requirements (preferred: Ford, Tesla, FCA, VW, Nissan, Mercedes Benz, GM and BRP)
