Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, scheduling, and management of machining activities, mold repairs, tooling cost control, as well as coordination of external supplier projects and design projects assigned to the Tool Room.
- Reduce unnecessary production downtime and drive continuous improvement in both equipment performance and team productivity.
- Manage annual performance reviews, enforce general safety rules and company policies, conduct monthly safety meetings, and motivate personnel toward meeting departmental goals and objectives.
- Supervise technicians’ activities, mold repair tasks, and production equipment repairs.
- Provide support for prototypes and troubleshooting, and oversee project design, installations, and modifications.
- Ensure staff is trained in mold repair, machining techniques, general plant procedures, and Tool Room–specific processes.
- Coordinate tooling needs and machine maintenance with Production, Logistics, and Engineering teams.
- Promote, lead, and support continuous improvement programs and initiatives.
- Identify talent within the department and provide development and mentorship opportunities for future leaders.
- Comply with and enforce all safety precautions and regulations throughout all work areas.
- Report all safety hazards and potentially unsafe working conditions promptly.
- Know, comply with, and reinforce the plant’s Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) policies and guidelines.
- Ensure adherence to the OPmobility policy and follow up on its requirements.
- Develop, communicate, implement, maintain, and comply with procedures related to the function.
- Uphold responsibility and authority to report to Human Resources and/or Safety any activity that may pose risks to safety or the environment.
Required Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field (preferred).
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
- Proven experience in manufacturing and/or maintenance of plastic injection molds for automotive lighting products.
- Proven experience in similar roles leading tool shop operations.
- Statistical analysis skills using Minitab or similar software.
- Experience managing large and complex projects.
- Ability to communicate technical knowledge and apply safety regulations effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
