This position was created to ensure part development and maturation. The role of Project Tooling Specialist communicates with P&D, Tooling and Moldflow departments to follow up part 3D data evolution, find issues and opportunities in the concept phase to create feasible and robust part 3D data that complies with POL – Plastic Omnium Lighting standards and design rules.

In addition to Feasibility tasks, this position requires management skills as well to coordinate tools launch, updated information about timing, design evolution on part, pre-acceptance at the supplier side and final acceptance of the mold in POL Mexico 

 

  • Follow up the design evolution and collaborates on feasibility evaluation during the design phase.
  • Make recommendations for mold flow analysis, capable to interpret MFR file and create recommendations for filling and gate optimization (Experience to run mold flow software is preferable)
  • Coordinate & evaluate CAE modeling for mold flow and FEA analysis, etc.
  • Interpret customer design specifications and drawings to evaluate parts for production.
  • Advise product design with an emphasis on manufacturability from a tooling perspective.
  • Determine tool design & assumptions such as:  quality; GD&T; fit interfaces; health & safety; reliability; cost; timing capability studies at prototype & production stages; downstream manufacturing processes (decorating and assembly)
  • Prepare specification of the molds for quotation.
  • Communicate the changes of part design to make it feasible for molding, approves the concept of the mold with respect to the part surface quality.
  • Follow up the manufacturing of the mold to assure timing and quality of the mold.
  • Update project documents according to global tooling database.
  • Participate in the tryouts at the supplier, evaluate the mold robustness, readiness and conformity based on the specification. Provide feedback loop for continuous improvement.
  • Negotiate and share the timing of the tryout, coordinate the changes on the mold to improve part quality, prepare the report for the mold evaluation. Track the evolution of timing and shares information about the next tryout.
  • Participate in the final tryout at the supplier to give pre-acceptance for the mold before transport.
  • Escalate all issues that may affect program launch.
  • Be a leader in the development and procurement process to ensure successful launches for POL.

In addition to the technical activities listed the position will require you to follow KPI target set in PLS, observe and report activities to Americas Regional Tooling Manager.

Requirements

  • 3+ years associate degree in tooling technology or correlated areas.
  • Fluent in English is mandatory.
  • 10+ years of experience in Exterior Lighting companies with Tooling responsibility.
  • Tool design skills to develop injection molds using 3D CAD softwares (Cimatron or equivalent).
  • Must have knowledge of CATIA for product evaluation and feasibility feedback.
  • Knowledge of inspection criteria for aesthetic quality judgment of injected plastic parts.
  • Must have experience with Moldflow (simulations and creating reports with improve recommendations).
  • Willingness to learn and improve technical knowledges.
  • Ability to solve complex technical design, tooling, and injection problems.
  • Must have good organization skills to follow global tooling documentation and procedures.
  • Must have experience in multicolor (2K/3K/4K) tool design.
  • Must have design experience to explain mechanisms concept and crashing condition to PD Engineers.
