The Lead Mechanical Engineer leads mechanical design activities within assigned projects and ensures delivery of robust, validated, and manufacturable mechanical solutions that meet customer requirements, quality standards, cost targets, and project timing. The role coordinates the mechanical project team, supports cross functional engineering activities, and contributes to continuous improvement, innovation, and knowledge sharing.

 

The role of Lead Mechanical Engineer is based in our Exterior & Lighting Business Group in Nový Jičín, Czech Republic.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead mechanical development tasks from concept through Job1 (start of production), ensuring product feasibility, manufacturability, and alignment with project timing, cost, and quality targets.
  • Develop and validate mechanical concepts considering feasibility, cost, durability, legal requirements, and customer specifications, applying CAD standards, DGL (design guidelines) rules, and Lessons Learned.
  • Own and update the mechanical BOM; support DFMEA creation, CAE(virtual simulation/validation)/DV (design validation) planning, component validation, certification activities, and PPAP delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with internal and external customers and suppliers from concept phase through J1+90, providing technical presentations and participating in design reviews (TDRs).
  • Ensure proper data management, documentation flow, and mechanical feasibility confirmation; support audits and industrialization activities as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, cost optimization, and process improvement; contribute to benchmarking, DCRM (design and cost reduction management) sessions, and updates of design guidelines.
  • Mentor junior engineers, support new business development (feasibility, BOM), and ensure compliance with all safety and legislative requirements.

 

Requirements:

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience), with 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, plastic injection technologies, and tool design.
  • Experience leading small technical projects; team leadership experience is an advantage.
  • Strong skills in CAD tools (CATIA, NX), GD&T, DFMEA, and mechanical validation methodologies.
  • Proven experience presenting technical solutions to customers and managing daily customer communication.
  • Strong organizational, decision making, and priority setting skills, with excellent stress management and a high level of self reliance.
  • Advanced English (B2); German or French is an advantage.
  • Strong orientation toward quality, results, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement; valid driving license (B).
