The Project Technical Lead leads cross‑functional engineering teams to develop automotive lighting systems, acting as the main technical interface for the customer. It oversees system strategy, timelines, risks, and validation to ensure the successful delivery of complex lamp system projects
The role of Project Technical Lead is based in our Exterior & Lighting Business Group in Nový Jičín, Czech Republic.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the cross‑functional lamp system project team (mechanical, optical, electrical) to develop system‑level solutions that meet customer requirements
- Serve as the primary technical interface to the customer for all engineering topics, ensuring clear communication and reporting across optics, mechanics, electronics, and modules
- Define the overall system project strategy, including processes, work products, reuse strategy, process baselines, and tailoring
- Create and maintain the system development timeline, manage PD‑related (product development) milestones, and coordinate timing constraints with the Program Manager
- Oversee system‑level risk management, change management, product BOM ownership, requirements management, DFMEA, and design‑to‑cost activities
- Ensure successful product validation, compliance with VPDS (production development system), and achievement of TDR (technical design review) milestones; support industrialization and suppliers during development
- Measure project performance (KPIs), manage system OIL (open issue list), and support transfer of the project into C/P (current/past) phase.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical) or several years of experience in designing automotive components
- 5+ years of experience in lamp/system design (mechanical, optical, or electronic), ideally within the automotive industry
- Proven leadership or project management experience, including coordinating cross‑functional engineering teams
- Strong system‑engineering competencies, including experience with tools such as Polarion
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English, with the ability to present to large audiences and manage daily customer interactions
- Strong cost awareness, structured work organization, and a self‑driven, autonomous mindset; willingness to travel to company sites, customers, and suppliers
- Solid understanding of engineering processes, risk and change management, and ability to drive strategic and technical decisions
