COUNTRY HR LABOR RELATIONS ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR - KOREA

Position Summary

The Associate Director / Senior Labor Relations Manager – Korea is the country expert and trusted advisor on all labor relations matters. The role is responsible for defining and executing the labor relations strategy for Korea, ensuring compliance with labor legislation, fostering a constructive social climate, and supporting business development initiatives.

The position acts as the primary interface between management, employee representatives, trade unions, labor authorities, site HR teams, and Group HR on all labor relations matters.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

Labor Relations Strategy & Employee Relations

  • Define and deploy the labor relations strategy for Korea in alignment with Group and Business Group objectives.
  • Act as the primary advisor to the Country Management Team, and site HR Managers on labor relations matters.
  • Foster a constructive social climate through proactive engagement with employee representatives, unions, and key stakeholders.
  • Anticipate labor relations risks and propose appropriate mitigation plans.
  • Monitor developments in labor legislation, collective agreements, and market practices, assessing their impact on the organization.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to managers on employee and labor relations topics.

Relations and Negotiations with Social Partners

  • Serve as the main point of contact for employee representative bodies, trade unions, and labor authorities.
  • Prepare, lead, and coordinate meetings with employee representatives and unions.
  • Develop and execute negotiation strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Lead collective bargaining negotiations and other labor-related agreements in collaboration with the HR Director and relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective implementation and follow-up of negotiated agreements.
  • Promote constructive and transparent dialogue with social partners while balancing employee and business interests.
  • Ensure compliance with labor agreements and employee representative rights.

Business Support 

  • Participate in the deployment of Group and Business Group initiatives within Korea.
  • Support operational and business leaders on labor relations implications aligned with the devevolpment of the business in the Korean market 
  • Provide regular reporting and updates to Regional and Group HR teams regarding labor relations matters, risks, and key developments.
  • Support strategic business decisions through labor relations expertise and recommendations.

Legal Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure compliance with Korean labor laws, regulations, collective agreements, and company policies.
  • Manage labor disputes and coordinate actions with internal and external legal counsel when required.
  • Develop, update, and implement labor relations policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Support HR teams on disciplinary procedures, grievances, investigations, and sensitive employee relations cases.
  • Design and deliver training programs to managers and HR teams on labor law, labor relations, and employee relations topics.
  • Promote consistent labor relations practices across all Korean entities and sites.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master's Degree in Human Resources, Labor Law, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in labor relations, employee relations, or HR leadership roles within a multinational and/or industrial environment.
  • Strong expertise in Korean labor law, collective bargaining, trade union relations, and employee representative structures.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex negotiations with unions and employee representatives.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to balance legal, employee, and operational considerations.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, influencing, and communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution capabilities.
  • Ability to manage complex and sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.
  • Strategic thinker with strong execution and project management capabilities.
  • Fluent in Korean and English.
  • Willingness to travel regularly within Korea and occasionally internationally.
