Reports to: GLOBAL FINANCES TAX VP
This role leads regional tax strategy, compliance, and risk management for a global Tier 1 supplier, ensuring adherence to U.S., Argentinian, Brazilian, Canadian, and Mexican tax requirements while aligning regional initiatives with global tax policy.
Core Responsibilities
Regional Tax Strategy
- Develop and execute a regional focused tax strategy aligned with global tax principles and the region’s manufacturing footprint.
- Lead planning initiatives involving, transfer pricing, cross‑border intercompany flows and R&D incentives.
- Evaluate tax implications of new plant launches, expansions, customer programs, and footprint shifts across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
- Advise leadership on legislative changes affecting automotive industry and country tax profiles.
Compliance & Reporting
- Oversee country tax teams to ensure compliance with federal and local income tax requirements.
- Monitor country tax metrics and develop actions plans for managing country effective tax rate and cash tax positions. Oversee country tax teams to ensure accuracy in quarterly and annual tax provision processes under IAS 12, ensuring accuracy of deferred taxes and uncertain tax treatments.
- Maintain strong internal controls and documentation to support audits across multiple jurisdictions.
- Provide regional tax leadership across sales and use tax, property tax, VAT/GST, and excise tax matters.
Cross‑Border Supply Chain & Transfer Pricing
- Partner with global tax and finance teams to implement and monitor transfer pricing policies for goods, tooling, engineering services, and IP.
- Ensure alignment between tax planning, supply chain flows, and commercial agreements with OEMs and Tier 2 suppliers.
Audit & Risk Management
- Monitor IRS, state, CRA, and SAT audits, coordinating with global tax leadership on positions and documentation.
- Monitor global tax developments and assess their impact on the Americas regional operations.
- Implement governance frameworks to ensure consistent application of tax policies across all regional entities.
Business Partnership
- Collaborate with Operations and Supply Chain on plant expansions, tooling arrangements, and cross‑border logistics.
- Work with Engineering and R&D teams to maximize incentives for innovation, sustainability, and alternative energy initiatives.
- Support Treasury on cash repatriation, intercompany financing, and regional liquidity planning.
- Provide guidance to HR on compensation, mobility, and expatriate tax matters.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and develop high‑performing country tax teams.
- Manage relationships with external advisors, auditors, and government authorities.
- Drive continuous improvement in tax processes, automation, and tax technology.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA, JD, or Master’s in Taxation.
- Demonstrated progressive tax experience with leadership responsibility in multinational environments.
- Strong expertise in U.S. federal and state tax, with working knowledge of regional country tax systems where the company operates.
- Experience with IAS 12 and complex tax provision processes.
- Proven ability to manage cross‑border audits and transfer pricing matters.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence global and regional stakeholders.
Preferred
- Experience in a Tier 1 automotive supplier, OEM, or large manufacturing environment.
- Experience with ERP and tax technology platforms (SAP, Oracle, OneSource).
