Functional Safety Engineer

The Functional Safety Engineer is responsible for leading Functional Safety activities during product development, ensuring that safety requirements are properly defined, implemented, and verified. The role drives Functional Safety analysis and design to achieve compliance with applicable standards while supporting overall product quality, performance, and safety objectives.

 

Responsibilities

Program development management based on ISO 26262

  • Ensure Functional Safety activities are planned and executed in accordance with the product development schedule.
  • Perform Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA), FMEDA, and qualitative and quantitative Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
  • Define Functional Safety requirements at the functional, technical, hardware, and software levels.
  • Collaborate closely with System, Software, Hardware, and Validation teams to ensure compliance with Functional Safety standards and safety requirements.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of Functional Safety concepts by suppliers.

Knowledge development

  • Support the development and maintenance of Functional Safety deliverable checklists.
  • Contribute to the development and promotion of Functional Safety knowledge and best practices within OPmobility.
  • Formalize, maintain, and share Functional Safety know-how to support knowledge capitalization and continuous competence development across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics, Software, Systems, Automotive Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Functional Safety within the automotive industry.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 26262 and Functional Safety lifecycle processes.
  • Experience in System, Hardware, and Software architecture design and development.
  • Solid expertise in Functional Safety analysis methodologies, including HARA, FMEDA, and FTA.
  • Functional Safety certification (e.g., TÜV, UL) is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Fluent in English; French is a plus.
  • Self-driven, analytical, and capable of working independently in a collaborative environment.
